Asus ROG Phone II: Design and Display
In terms of design, the ROG Phone II is identical to its predecessor, and when kept side-by-side, it is hard to tell them apart. Asus says it has taken gamers’ perspective into consideration and incorporated gaming ergonomics and tailored solutions in the phone with landscape use in mind. It also says that it has opted for an all-screen design on the phone (with no notch) to offer more room for better sound fidelity and the front-facing camera and to minimize the risk of unintentional touches during intensive gaming. On its front, the phone features a 6.59-inch AMOLED display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 2340×1080 pixels screen resolution, and Corning’s Gorilla Glass 6 protection on top. The display offers 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch response, 1ms response, and 49ms touch latency. Asus says the ROG Phone II is the world’s first smartphone to come with a 49ms touch latency.
Asus ROG Phone II: Hardware
Talking about performance, the ROG Phone II comes with a 7nm 2.96GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus processor with Adreno 640 GPU running under the hood. It includes 8GB/12GB of RAM LPDDR4X and 128GB/512GB of UFS3.0 internal storage. As for other hardware, the phone has dual front-facing speakers, DTS:X Ultra virtual surround sound, hi-res audio 192kHz/24-bit, quad microphone array, and an in-display fingerprint scanner. For connectivity, it has WLAN 802.11a/b/g/n/ac 2.4 & 5GHz, Bluetooth 5.0, dual SIM dual standby, NFC, 3.5mm jack, and USB Type-C. To power everything, the phone includes a 6000mAh battery with 30W HyperCharge fast charging and support for 30W QC4.0 / PD3.0 / Direct Charge adapter. It runs on Android 9 Pie out of the box with ROG UI running on top. The ROG UI comes with dark or light gaming themes and also features gaming apps and features such as Armoury Crate and Game Genie.
Asus ROG Phone II: Camera
For optics, the ROG Phone II sports a dual camera set up on the rear, which includes a 48MP primary Sony IMX586 sensor with f/1.79 aperture and Quad Bayer Technology and a secondary 13MP 125 ̊ ultra-wide sensor with f/2.4 aperture and real-time distortion correction, along with an LED flash. Coming to the front, it includes a 24MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and Quad Bayer Technology.
The phone offers 4K UHD video recording at 30/60 fps on the primary rear sensor and at 30fps for the secondary ultra-wide sensor, in addition to 1080p FHD video recording at 30/60 fps and 720p HD at 30fps. Additionally, it also comes with 1080p slow-motion video recording at 120/240 fps and 720p at 480fps.
